Pvt. Sam Watkins of Columbia, TN would survive and write about the battle and his experiences in the war, entitled “Company Aytch’. I would like to share a few of his dramatic words (Caution: this may ruin your breakfast).

***************************************
Kind reader, right here my pen, and courage, and ability fail me. I shrink from butchery. Would to God I could tear the page from these memoirs and from my own memory. It is the blackest page in the history of the war of the Lost Cause. It was the bloodiest battle of modern times in any war. It was the finishing stroke to the independence of the Southern Confederacy. I was there. I saw it. My flesh trembles, and creeps, and crawls when I think of it today. My heart almost ceases to beat at the horrid recollection. Would to God that I had never witnessed such a scene! I cannot describe it. It beggars description. I will not attempt to describe it. I could not. The death-angel was there to gather its last harvest. It was the grand coronation of death. Would that I could turn the page. But I feel, though I did so, that page would still be there, teeming with its scenes of horror and blood. I can only tell of what I saw...
It was four o'clock on that dark and dismal December day when the line of battle was formed, and those devoted heroes were ordered forward, to Strike for their altars and their fires, For the green graves of their sires, For God and their native land.
As they marched on down through an open field toward the rampart of blood and death, the Federal batteries began to open and mow down and gather into the garner of death, as brave, and good, and pure spirits as the world ever saw. The twilight of evening had begun to gather as a percursor of the coming blackness of midnight darkness that was to envelop a scene so sickening and horrible that it is impossible for me to describe it. "Forward, men," is repeated all along the line. A sheet of fire was poured into our very faces, and for a moment we halted as if in despair, as the terrible avalanche of shot and shell laid low those brave and gallant heroes, whose bleeding wounds attested that the struggle would be desperate. Forward, men! And the blood spurts in a perfect jet from the dead and wounded. The earth is red with blood. It runs in streams, making little rivulets as it flows. Occasionally there was a little lull in the storm of battle, as the men were loading their guns, and for a few moments it seemed as if night tried to cover the scene with her mantle. The death-angel shrieks and laughs and old Father Time is busy with his sickle, as he gathers in the last harvest of death, crying, More, more, more! while his rapacious maw is glutted with the slain.

But the skirmish line being deployed out, extending a little wider than the battle did -- passing through a thicket of small locusts, where Brown, orderly sergeant of Company B, was killed--we advanced on toward the breastworks, on and on. I had made up my mind to die--felt glorious. We pressed forward until I heard the terrific roar of battle open on our right. Cleburne's division was charging their works. I passed on until I got to their works, and got over on their (the Yankees') side. But in fifty yards of where I was the scene was lit up by fires that seemed like hell itself. It appeared to be but one line of streaming fire. Our troops were upon one side of the breastworks, and the Federals on the other. I ran up on the line of works, where our men were engaged. Dead soldiers filled the entrenchments. The firing was kept up until after midnight, and gradually died out. We passed the night where we were. But when the morrow's sun began to light up the eastern sky with its rosy hues, and we looked over the battlefield, O, my God! what did we see! It was a grand holocaust of death. Death had held high carnival there that night. The dead were piled the one on the other all over the ground. I never was so horrified and appalled in my life.

Horses, like men, had died game on the gory breastworks. General Adams' horse had his fore feet on one side of the works and his hind feet on the other, dead. The general seems to have been caught so that he was held to the horse's back, sitting almost as if living, riddled, and mangled, and torn with balls. General Cleburne's mare had her fore feet on top of the works, dead in that position. General Cleburne's body was pierced with forty-nine bullets, through and through. General Strahl's horse lay by the roadside and the general by his side, both dead, and all his staff. General Gist, a noble and brave cavalier from South Carolina, was lying with his sword reaching across the breastworks still grasped in his hand. He was lying there dead. All dead! They sleep in the graveyard yonder at Ashwood, almost in sight of my home, where I am writing today. They sleep the sleep of the brave. We love and cherish their memory. They sleep beneath the ivy-mantled walls of St. John's church, where they expressed a wish to be buried. The private soldier sleeps where he fell, piled in one mighty heap.

Four thousand five hundred privates! all lying side by side in death! Thirteen generals were killed and wounded. Four thousand five hundred men slain, all piled and heaped together at one place. I cannot tell the number of others killed and wounded. God alone knows that. We'll all find out on the morning of the final resurrection.

Let us heed the dramatic impact of this day, and the rest realize the intensity of the dramatic struggle of these gallant, Patriotic defenders of their homes, their family and their rights. May you be empowered to re-double your conviction to fulfill the charge by learning more about your ancestors and his participation and teach others about the heroism of these American Veterans.

The state of Mississippi  will probably be attacked and subjected to yet another round of ethnic cleansing via its state flag. The cultural Marxists, building on events that transpired last year, seem to feel that they can sound the death knell for Confederate symbols all across the country, and the Mississippi State Flag is one of their main targets.

If possible they will seek to do it without a vote of the citizens of Mississippi. They will seek to do it, if left to their own devices, through a legislative redesigning  of the state flag which will totally emasculate any real cultural meaning from it. They are, after all, in the business of destroying Christian and Southern culture. That is one of the foremost items on their to do list.

So, look in this coming year for a barrage of false accusations regarding the flag. The prostitute press will greatly aid them in this, as they owe their souls to those who want to be rid of any and all Confederate symbols, be they in Jackson or New York and quite frankly, most of them don’t care if they lie to accomplish that or not.

So you will be told that the Confederate Battle Flag on the Mississippi State Flag places Mississippi “out of step” with the rest of the country. It makes Mississippi way too “non-conformist” and everyone should want to conform to the cultural Marxist worldview shouldn’t they? Well, no, actually they shouldn’t. If more people understood the Marxist worldview hopefully they would oppose it. And actually, what’s wrong with being non-conformist? When you look at where some of these states are headed today, like California and New York, do you really want to be “conformed” to that? We are told by the cultural Marxists that we need “diversity.” Only problem is that they get to define what the term means. Real diversity would include those who do not conform to the status quo. But if you understand the cultural Marxists then you realize that’s not really what they mean.

Then they will try to convince you that because the Battle Flag is on Mississippi’s state flag, that shows you that Mississippi supports and endorses slavery. In all honesty, folks, get real! The 13th Amendment passed in 1865 outlawed slavery. It has been gone for over 150 years now. The Confederate Battle Flag was only ever a soldiers’ flag and black soldiers fought under it along with whites, American Indians and some Mexicans. It was never an endorsement of slavery. It had nothing whatever to do with slavery just as the vast majority of men who fought under it had nothing to do with slavery.

The Battle Flag, whether part of Mississippi’s State Flag or not, hasn’t changed, but peoples’ perception of what it was has been twisted and manipulated so most people, black or white, don’t really know the history or the facts.

I will admit that certain undesirable groups and individuals have abused and misused Confederate flags. However, if you understand accurate history, you will realize that what those people have done through their misuse of the flag does not change what the flag was originally all about. All it does is to change the perception. And that is exactly what their misuse was intended to do.

So in this coming year, as the deluge of deliberate disinformation about the Battle Flag on the state flag is shoveled into your faces, before you buy into it, take the time and make the effort to find out the truth about the flag. The St. Andrews Cross on the battle flag is a Christian symbol and that symbolism ought to tell you something.

Having followed the ethnic cleansing program of the cultural Marxists for several years it has come as no surprise that they have, again, attacked Confederate flags and symbols with much vitriol in the past six months or so. The shootings in Charleston gave them fresh impetus, a shot in the arm, if you will.

The total removal of anything “Confederate” has long been a part of their agenda, both the  ones on the street and those in board rooms in New York and Washington. Indeed, the ones on the street are little more than “useful idiots” for the ones in the board rooms. They are the cannon fodder for the revolution promoted by those who plan to remake American culture, most particularly Southern American culture, in their own image. These people are the ultimate idolators.

I have noted, for a couple decades now, how the “news” media has sought to connect the Confederate Battle flag to the Ku Klux Klan. This has been an ongoing project. This is one thought they have assiduously attempted to implant into the minds of the American public—KKK equals Confederate flag–it’s all the same, you have one you have the other, so just equate the two and don’t even bother to think about it (because beyond that they’d rather you didn’t).

Even for the media and the leftists, though, there are always some flies in the buttermilk. If you go back and follow some of the history down you begin to find it hasn’t always been that way.  This is what the anti-Southern cultural mind-benders would rather you didn’t do–follow the history down.

We’ve all seen photos of the (what passes for news) media of KKK marches, rallies, or what have you and there are always almost more Confederate flags around than there are people. Hint: this is not by accident. I saw a video tape once of a KKK parade in Northern Illinois that had two flag bearers at the front of the procession, one carrying a US flag and the other carrying a Confederate flag. The media person doing the video inadvertently focused in first on the guy carrying the US flag, and realizing he had goofed, he immediately switched and concentrated on the person carrying the Confederate flag for the rest of the video and you never saw the US flag again. This is so typical. In fact, I was surprised,  that this late in the cultural genocide game you could still see a US flag in a KKK parade. Most had been purged and replaced with Confederate flags. This was probably fifteen years or so ago.

While doing some research for another project, I happened to come across a whole batch of old photos of KKK rallies and marches from back in the 1920s and 30s. And guess what? They weren’t all in the South. One was in Washington, D.C.; another was in Ohio. I even found a picture of one in Minnesota–hardly the heart of Dixie! Turns out, if you do  a little research, you find that, in the earlier part of the 20th century the Klan was very prevalent in Ohio, Indiana and other Midwestern states, more so than in the South. I’m not saying the South didn’t have them, but they don’t seem to have had as many as the Midwest did. And somehow, I tend to doubt that all those Midwestern Klan members  were rabid and racist Southern rednecks. In fact, growing up in the North, I got to know a couple people in New England that had been Klan members in their earlier days. These people were Northerners. They had never lived anywhere near the South. They had been part of that great Northern former Klan population that no one ever mentions (or is supposed to be aware of).

One thing I noted in those old Klan photos–anytime they had a march or a parade you had more US flags on hand than you could shake a stick at. Yet this is never mentioned. Only the present day Klan (which is not nearly as big as people think it is) is ever talked about.  Only the current Klan carrying Confederate flags is ever noted–outside of thinly veiled attempts at making Nathan Bedford Forrest the chief bugaboo of the Klan–forever!

Now I realize I’m not even supposed to think of this, but, if the Confederate flag is “racist” because the Klan carried it, does that also make the US flag racist because the Klan carried it? Well? Don’t hear too many replies from the left. Of course I realize that, to the real Far Left, every flag in this country is “racist” except that of the old Soviet Union, that great leveler (with machine guns or otherwise) of society. But I do wonder why it’s okay to portray the Confederate flag as “racist” because certain groups carried it and then to ignore the fact that these same groups also carried the US flag. Maybe it’s not quite time to label the US flag racist in a major campaign yet.

There was a point in time when the KKK switched from carrying the US flag to carrying the Confederate flag. Why?

Three or four years ago I read a fictional book by Tony Hillerman called A Thief of Time. It was a story about people in the Southwest called “pot hunters”–people who illegally dig for Indian artifacts on federal land so they can sell them to artifact collectors, usually for pretty hefty sums. While I am not in favor of this sort of thing, neither am I in favor of how the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) treats Western folks that use or lease federal land. After all, the land, in theory, is supposed to belong to the public. In fact, it belongs to the Washington Empire, no matter what administration is currently in power.

Supposedly the “thieves of time” are stealing the past when they illegally take artifacts from “public land.”  It’s an interesting concept (and not one I totally disagree with) and it’s not generally something people even consider in today’s whirl of sports extravaganzas and reality shows. In that context maybe we should begin to think about the “Thieves of Culture” who are, even as I write this, trying to steal our culture and replace it with some socialist (Marxist) phantasm straight out of the Middle East or Eastern Europe. This, the current regime tells us, will be just great for the country and it gives us a golden opportunity to display our love and compassion for those from countries that hate our guts. All the more reason for inviting them over here, so they say. What I say to that isn’t printable.

In a recent column on http://www.newswithviews.com columnist Frosty Woolridge has said, and quite accurately, that: “With every third world immigrant entering the United States of America, our country loses its ethos. It loses its culture. It loses its language and it loses its religion. Ultimately, it loses its identity….”

That’s the real name of the game. That is the goal of the current regime–to so water down the culture and religion of this country that it is impossible to tell us from some “banana republic” over in Lower Slobovia. That’s what it’s really all about, with the potential influx of hundreds of thousands of new refugees. The current regime is busily working on this while most folks dumbly sit on their thumbs at home, bemused by whatever drivel the “nitworks” (with government sanction) decide to throw at us.  The total destruction of American culture, most particularly in the South, is the goal of the individual that sits in the White House (when he’s not in Hawaii playing golf on our dime) and it’s the goal of those who made sure he got to the White House to begin with. What do you think all this fuss over Confederate flags and symbols this past summer was all about? Cultural destruction, that’s what, and don’t think it’s finished yet. The thieves of culture recognize that most of the resistance they get to their plans comes from the South, a South with a Christian background and worldview–and they must destroy that. They are, after all, cultural Marxists and they are at war with us, even if we can’t quite seem to figure it out yet. They are in an ongoing culture war with us and it would be nice if a few more of the folks on our side of the fence quit competing with each other over who will be the Chief Couch Potato and stood up and fought back.

And it would be nice if more Christians stood up and fought back. I just read an article this morning about a woman professor at Wheaton College in Illinois, Billy Graham’s alma mater. This woman has decided that, in “solidarity” with the Muslims, she should wear a Muslim hijab during the Christian Advent Season.  She made quite a point of saying, on social media, that Christians and Muslims have the same God, and the college suspended her. In my opinion they should have fired her. At best, a statement like that can be considered blasphemous. Christians and Muslims do not share the same God, but then she went on to note that Pope Francis said the same thing. This demonstrates how influential the thieves of culture have been in the Church. Instead of the Church shaping the culture the thieves of culture have been busy influencing the Church, reshaping it, if you will. A woman who believes this kind of thing holds a position in a school that teaches future theologians and the head of the Roman Catholic Church thinks God the Father and Allah are the same! Evangelicals and Roman Catholics ought to be up in arms–but they won’t. Much easier to just sit at home and watch the tube–less hassle that way. And the  culture continues to be dragged yet another step closer to destruction because most Christians are just too blasted (I was tempted to use another word) lazy to get up and DO anything. Luther, Calvin, and Knox wouldn’t have been real pleased with this generation or the last couple preceding it. The thieves of culture have spent considerable time in the churches too.

The Church has become soft and complacent and mostly doesn’t want to do anything that might involve having to struggle to preserve what the Lord has given us. Much easier to just “go with the flow” and let the Lord take care of it all so I don’t have to get my theological hands dirty and I won’t have to DO anything that might interfere with Sunday afternoon’s football game.

My personal opinion is that, unless we start to wake up, the Lord is going to put us through the mill, and all those folks sitting by waiting for a secret, imminent rapture (non-involvement) will be in for much more than a culture shock. We are past being ripe for judgment. How many unborn babies have died since 1973? Unless we start to turn around (repent) the Lord just may well give us a couple generations of Sharia Law to get our attention. Most of what’s happened up to now doesn’t seem to be doing it! In 70 AD the Lord destroyed Jerusalem because the Jews refused to repent when they had been given the opportunity.  Makes you wonder if the Church’s 70 AD isn’t just over the horizon?
